Compress Photo to 50KB: Step by Step Guide
Published: June 10, 2025 • 4 min read • RealImageTool
The 50KB photo limit is the most common requirement for bank competitive exam forms in India — IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk, SBI PO, RBI Grade B, and dozens of other recruitment notifications all specify this limit. If you've just taken a photo with your phone (typically 2-5 MB), you need to reduce it dramatically before you can upload it.
This guide shows you how to compress any photo to 50KB or less in seconds using a free browser-based tool — no software installation required.
Which Exams Require 50KB Photos?
The 50KB photo limit is standard across most IBPS recruitment forms:
- IBPS PO: Photo up to 50KB, Signature up to 20KB
- IBPS Clerk: Photo up to 50KB, Signature up to 20KB
- IBPS RRB: Photo up to 50KB, Signature up to 20KB
- SBI PO / SBI Clerk: Photo 20-50KB
- Canara Bank PO: Photo up to 50KB

Always check the specific notification for the current year's requirements, as they can change.

Tips for IBPS Photo Upload
- Use a recent passport-size photo with plain white background
- Ensure your face covers 70-80% of the photo frame
- Avoid wearing glasses — IBPS does not allow glasses in photos
- Sign on white paper using a black or blue ball pen — scan or photograph it
- For the signature: use the same resizer tool, choose the 20KB preset
Why JPG Is Better Than PNG for 50KB
JPG (JPEG) uses lossy compression that works excellently for photos. A face photo compressed to 50KB as JPG looks clear and sharp. The same photo as PNG at 50KB would look extremely pixelated because PNG uses lossless compression — to reduce size, dimensions must be reduced drastically.
Always use JPG format for government form photo uploads.
What if the portal rejects my 50KB photo?
Some portals are strict about exact dimensions as well as file size. Check if the portal specifies pixel dimensions (e.g., 200x230px). Use the "Resize by Pixels" tab first, then compress to KB.
Can I use a PNG photo for IBPS?
IBPS and most bank forms require JPG format. Even if your original is PNG, our tool converts it to JPG during compression.
My photo is exactly 50.1KB — will it be accepted?
Most portals have a strict "less than or equal to" check. To be safe, target 48-49KB. Use the custom KB field and enter 48.
